This past weekend I ventured up to go visit my sister during her last weekend in Northern Virginia, did a few of the bridesmaid's hair for a wedding and then also was able to go to the wedding to celebrate with the bride and groom. Being a sucker for weddings this past weekend was something I was looking forward to for a while. This all got started when my sister's roommate got engaged and she asked me if I could help get some of her bridesmaids ready by doing their hair. So, my sister and I decided to make a fun weekend out of it while I would be in town. On Friday we went out to dinner with some friends, Saturday I was on hair duty in the morning and then we both had the ceremony and reception to attend that afternoon, and by Sunday we went out for a nice breakfast before I had to head home. I made sure to take some pictures of my favorite things from the wedding so that I could share them with you today!

Here are two of the bridesmaids all ready for the wedding day.
My sister and I at the reception.
The bride and groom chose a lovely yellow and gray for their wedding colors. Our wedding favor, sunglasses with their wedding date on them, was waiting at our seat. They also had fun with creating their table names. They named all their tables after their favorite animated shows, movies and games. We were seated at the Rugrats table.
For a personal touch the bride and groom put together an album of their engagement pictures for guests to sign. They also had extra engagement pictures for all the guests to take with them.
And you cannot forget about the cake. The couple chose a beautifully designed cake using a light yellow and incorporating in a gorgeous lace detail. The best part of the cake, besides how delicious it was, was the surprise that the bride added at the base. She had the cake decorator take one of the groom's favorite characters and had him "trapped" under the cake.
The bride and groom had a wonderful ceremony and reception with everything running so smoothly. My sister and I had tons of fun, met some great people at our Rugrats table and went went home exhausted from enjoying all the wedding festivities. What is your favorite part when you attend a wedding?

Last week the girl's and I decided that it had been way to long since we had one of our girl's night dinners. With all our schedules finally settling down a bit we finally were able to set a date for our next outing. It just so happened that this month featured the semi-annual Restaurant Week event in Charlottesville, so we decided to change it up a little and instead of cooking in we decided to opt for a night out on the town.

In case you missed my post about Restaurant Week that I shared with you all this past winter here is a brief synopsis of what it is. Twice a year local restaurants come together and offer three-course fixed menus at 1 of 3 price points with $1 of every meal going towards a local charity. This time all the money raised was going to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Central Virginia. The best part of Restaurant Week? This is always a great time to try out some of the "pricier" restaurants in town as these fixed menus always offer their same great food at a cheaper price.

For those of you who have been following along you might know by now this group is one that loves food so this was one event we were all excited to take part in. After scanning through the menus it was decided that we wanted to try out Blue Light Grill since none of us had been there before and their menu sounded delicious. Here are some pictures of what I got to enjoy during our dinner last week.

There were three appetizers that sounded delicious to all of us. So we decided to each or one with a double of the goat cheese & lump crab hushpuppies with pimento cheese, which is what I ordered. I am now on the hunt for a similar recipe as they were delicious.
For the main meal I could not wait to try the seared scallops with watermelon two ways in a white balsamic reduction. I wasn’t lying when I said I was a sucker for summer fruits! It doesn’t seem like a lot but I still took home half of this as I was trying to save room for dessert.
And for dessert I ordered the cherry empanada with brown sugar gelato. I do not know how I managed to make it to the dessert part of dinner but somehow managed to enjoy every bite of this delicious dessert.
We all had an amazing time, left filled to the brim with amazing food as well as leftovers to enjoy later. I cannot wait until the next time Restaurant Week comes around! Does your city host a similar type of event where you live?

From running a Very Groovy 5K to enjoying some time down on the water this past holiday weekend was filled with fun times by all. Going into the weekend the only expectations I had were to spend as much time as possible outdoors (making sure to wearing sunscreen so I wouldn't get burned of course!) having fun. Before the holiday weekend kicked off I even got to spend some time in the kitchen creating cute red, white and blue mini cupcakes for the weekend. I had so much fun spending time with my friends and family this past weekend. Check out some of my favorite pictures from this past weekend below.

To kick off the weekend, one must always have some patriotic accessories. Here are the red, white and blue mini cupcakes I made as well as my uncle's golf balls for his 4th of July golf outing.
A trip down to the river is never complete without an afternoon of crab picking. This was the perfect 4th of July lunch caught and prepared by none other than my uncle.
As per tradition, we headed out onto the river to catch some 4th of July fireworks. Here is half our group out on one of the boats before the firework show began.
Friday a few of us headed out onto the water for some tubing. My sister and our friend (left) were the first to head out before I jumped onto the tube (right). At one point we drove through some jumping fish and one hit me on the tube!
All ready with the family to run the Deltaville Groovy 5K race on Saturday morning. We all walked away with a race day finishers medal and my dad and sister got an extra one as they each placed 2nd and 3rd (respectively) in their age groups!
What did you do this past weekend?

I can’t believe it is already July! I just cannot believe where the time has gone and the year is already have-way gone! On a lighter note this past week was a pretty good one. My parent’s celebrated their 31st anniversary, I tackled an art project that I had sitting around for a while, whipped up another pinterest recipe, headed out enjoy some music during Friday’s After Five, took a break by the pool to catch up on some reading and started getting ready for the July 4th holiday weekend down at the river. Over all it was a pretty relaxing week. Check out my photo recap of this past week.

I had fun in this kitchen making this Creamy Shrimp Pasta with Mushrooms and Peas recipe I came across on Pinterest with a few recipe tweaks.
I brought out my paints for a little painting project.
Enjoyed a night out listening to some music (and staying in the shade) at Charlottesville's Fridays After 5.
Took a break on Saturday at the pool. I was able to catch up on some reading with my latest Martha magazine.
A glass was raised to toast to my parent's 31st wedding anniversary! Cheers!! (Those were part of their gift from their darling children.)
Now I just need to figure out a fun dessert to take down to the river this weekend. Any suggestions on a fun 4th of July themed dessert?  Have a wonderful day!

It is always a great week when you get to spend time with friends and family. And this past week I got to do both! I went to a movie preview for The Heat, enjoyed a few nights out with Friends in both Charlottesville and Richmond, enjoyed some pool/catch-up time with one of my besties and ended the week with a graduation celebration party. And then to top off the weekend I (finally?) upgraded to a new phone and got an iPhone. Now I just have to figure out how to use everything. Anyone have any help on good apps to get and any tips on how to use everything?  Check out some pictures that I took from this past week’s events.

While waiting in line for the movie preview my friend and I decided to enroll and become students at Monster’s University. Can’t wait for classes to start!
Got to enjoy an amazing preview for The Heat. This is a must see for everyone!! I also saw This Is The End with some guy friends and yes it was funny but also a little strange in my book.
I celebrated the first day of summer by wearing some Lilly (it was also National Wear Your Lilly day).
Made a quick stop at the phone store to pick up my new phone.
I enjoyed lots of amazing food at the grad party. This was just the first round. No one left hungry from this party!
And of course a picture of the grad in the pool. Congrats you two!!
Over all this was one amazing weekend but I am more than looking forward to a relaxing evening in after a nice trip to the gym. This is the perfect evening to just stay in a watch some Bachelorette (don’t judge – it’s my TV guilty pleasure lol).

What did you do to celebrate the start of summer this past weekend?

Last we my family had a lot to celebrate. My brother had his baccalaureate program that he played in, then graduation and also Father’s Day. From the ceremonies to the fun family meals it was one hectic week but we all had a blast celebrating. Yesterday I used up the last of my energy just reading by the pool and trying to regain some energy. Check out some pictures from this past week of celebrations below.

At the Baccalaureate program my brother and his friend played a piece together called Polonaise de Concert. They were ten times better than my video recording skills. (My brother is the one of the piano.)
And then on Wednesday we all got together for a pre-graduation dinner before we headed downtown for the ceremony. We are one crazy family sometimes!
After dinner it was time for graduation!
And here is everyone post-graduation for some family pictures. Even though this was at 9 o’clock at night it had to be one of the hottest evenings of the summer so far. Of course we all just look amazing so it didn’t really matter! Lol
Have a happy Monday!! What did you do this past weekend?

Happy Monday! This past weekend my sister and I decided to celebrate Father’s Day a week early. Our dad is a huge Twins fan and they just happened to be playing the Nationals this past weekend so we decided to go. So on Saturday morning my dad and I drove up to Fairfax to meet up with my sister and then head on over to the game. Even though it had been raining like crazy the past few days the weather that afternoon could not have been better! We arrived to the park a few hours early and headed over to The Bullpen for some pre-game festivities. They had a live band playing, cornhole, food and plenty of drinks available which turned The Bullpen into an amazing outdoor block party area.
Once inside the gates we headed up to the bar under the scoreboard for their “happy hour” drink specials before the first pitch and watch the staff finish setting up the field for the game. (This is a great deal if you plan on heading to a Nats game this summer so make sure you take advantage of it!) I love how they have customized bottles for the Nats!
After the first pitch we headed down to our seats above the Twins dugout so that my dad might get to sit near some other Twins fans. Since the teams have the same colors and similar uniforms it was very confusing to tell which fans where what, but surprisingly there were quite a number of Twins fans in attendance. Here is the view that we had from our seats.
The game went into extra innings with the Twins pulling out a 4-3 win over the Nats on Saturday which left my dad in a very happy mood.  I was just glad that the game only went into 11 innings and not the 14 innings that we sat through last year or the 20 innings that Miami and the Mets played that day. After the game we headed down to the team store to pick up some tshirts. I loved the baseball “W” wall that they had in the store and then as it always is with my family we had a random funny picture that could not be passed up.
All-in-all it was a great weekend for a baseball game and we all had fun celebrating Father’s Day. Have you been to a MLB game this year? What are your favorite things to do and see when you go to a game?

This past weekend I had a busy work schedule with not 1, or 2 but 4 high school graduations. Congrats to all those who graduated! You left me completely exhausted by Saturday evening! Once Sunday rolled around I was ready to relax, read a little, clean out some of my DVR and try a new recipe that I had pinned on Pinterest. Over the past few weeks I have gotten into a cooking mood and been trying out some recipes that I have pinned on Pinterest. Here are the ones that I have tried so far:

Shrimp Tacos with Cilantro Lime Sauce
Ingredients for 2 tacos
  • small corn tortillas
  • 8 medium or large shrimp, peeled and deveined and butterflied
  • ½ cup shredded cabbage (any variety)
  • 6 oz plain yogurt
  • ¼ cup chopped cilantro
  • ½ of a lime, juiced, plus additional lime wedges for garnish
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Olive oil as needed
  • Cayenne pepper to taste (optional)

Directions
1. Mix yogurt, cilantro, lime juice, salt and pepper in a bowl and set aside.
2. Heat 2 tsp. olive oil in a medium skillet. Add cabbage and cook for a few, just to soften and warm, then set aside.
3. Cut shrimp into pieces and saute in 2 tsp. olive oil while seasoning with salt, pepper and cayenne pepper (if desired) over medium heat just until done.
4. Heat tortillas over medium heat in a dry skillet until warm and starting to form small brown spots. Build your taco with the cilantro lime sauce, cabbage and shrimp.

Chicken and Mushrooms with Asparagus
Ingredients for 2 servings
  • 3 drops vegetable oil
  • 6 oz mushrooms
  • 6-8 oz boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into cubes
  • 10-12 asparagus stalks, cut into small pieces
  • 1 lemon, juiced
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • ¼ cup chopped fresh parsley
  • brown rice

Directions
1. Heat a nonstick frying pan over medium heat. Add the oil and wipe out any excess with a paper towel.
2. Add the mushrooms, cook for 5 minutes, stirring often, and remove from pan and set aside.
3. Add the onion and cook until brown, about 5 minutes.
4. Add the chicken and cook until brown, about 6 minutes.
5. Add the asparagus, cooked mushrooms, lemon juice, and parsley, along with salt and pepper to taste.
6. Reduce the heat, cover, and continue cooking 10 minutes.
7. I served mine over a bed of brown rice with extra lemon juice sprinkled on top.

Omelet Muffins
Ingredients for 12 muffins
  • muffin pan
  • 12 eggs (beaten and seasoned with a pinch of salt and pepper)
  • mix-ins (diced ham, bacon, carrots. tomatoes, cheese, peppers, spinach)

Directions
1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees and generously grease the bottoms and sides of your muffin pan to ensure a stick-free removal once the omelets are done baking.
2. Make sure your eggs are beaten and you have added the salt and pepper.
3. Fill the bottoms of your muffin pan (about 1/3 of each individual tin) with the different mix-ins you chose. I decided to make ham and cheese omelets.
4. Then fill the tins with your eggs. The omelets will puff up a little when you bake them, so make sure to leave just a tiny bit of space at the top of each tin. Stir each mixture slightly to combine your eggs with the ingredients.
5. Bake your muffins for 18-20 minutes, or until you can poke the centers with a knife and it comes out clean (or almost clean).

I also already shared with you the Firecracker Cookies which was another one of my most recent Pinterest recipes. Each of these dishes were a huge success in my book and have been filed away in my recipe box for another day. An added bonus: each recipe is easy to modify when hosting a dinner party for friends and family!

Have you tried out a new recipe from Pinterest lately? How did it turn out? Happy Monday!

I had so much fun this past weekend down at the beach with my family and friends celebrating Memorial Day weekend! We stayed up late having fun, soaked up a few rays, went on a few bike rides and runs, enjoyed some great food and drinks (probably a little too much!) and got to relax a little bit. On Monday the water had even warmed up enough that I was able to take our paddleboard out for a bit.

I took down a batch of my firecracker cookies that I shared with you all last week along with a set of monogrammed beach spikers from 4 Giggly Girls that I bought for my family. The spikers worked amazingly at the beach and my family enjoyed using them all weekend. If you are having an event at the beach this summer I would strongly suggest these as the perfect favor or gift and Greer Wells, the owner of 4 Giggly Girls, is amazing to work with! It was the perfect Memorial Day Weekend!

Check out some pictures that I took from this past weekend.
Our pretty new beach house sign!
Nice ocean view from our top deck.
Always had a nicely stocked bar.
Relaxing on the beach.
Loving our new beach spikers from 4 Giggly Girls!
Enjoying a nice drink & read on the beach.
Yes, this is how we do dinner at the beach.
Enjoyed a fun bike ride before dinner.
And took the paddleboard out in the ocean.

I had so much fun as we had a weekend filled with activities to do. Now I feel like I need a vacation from my vacation! What did you do to celebrate Memorial Day this past weekend?

Weekend Recap: Senior Prom #PreppyPlanner
This past weekend was prom weekend for my little brother so of course not wanting to miss anything I drove down on Saturday to see him and his girlfriend off. It has been quite a number of years since I had my senior prom, but I think the only thing that changed between the two were the dresses. Once my brother was off to go and pick up his date we just photo hopped from one place to the next until they left for dinner. Check out some of the pictures from my brother’s prom this past weekend!

A family prom picture is a must have for the scrapbook.

To finish up with the prom pictures you have the final group shot.
Senior Prom: The big group shot #PreppyPlanner
For those that still have not had prom here are some great tips to remember when coordinating your pre-prom night activities.
  • Find a group of friends to go with and designate 1 person to coordinate your pre-prom schedule.
  • If taking pictures at 1 person’s house call the hosting family before prom to see where pictures can be taken and thank them for hosting.
  • If taking pictures at a venue call about a week out to check and see if there are any events going on at your potential site so that you can find a good time to pop in and get your group shots.
  • Figure out what shots you would like to get at each photo location beforehand. Browse through Pinterest for some cute picture ideas for you and your date as well as designate 1 person to organize everyone when it comes to meeting up for the group shots.
  • For dinner call at least 2 months out to a few restaurants to see if they can accommodate the size of your prom group and if they are offering a prom menu special. You will want to book a restaurant at least 1-1 ½ months out at some major locations.
  • Allow for some flexibility in your pre-prom schedule. Parents will want to take hundreds of pictures, traffic could be a little crazy and you never know how long the hair dresser will take. When creating your pre-prom schedule allow for extra time for everything. At the very least you can have some extra time at the restaurant hanging out with your friends.

What is your favorite memory from prom?

Want to join in on the celebrating? Tomorrow will be the 1 year anniversary of The Preppy Planner so to celebrate I am giving away a party prize pack filled with great party goodies that are perfect for any occasion! Even if you already follow you can enter! Just make sure you enter before midnight on May 21st for your chance to win! Here is how you can enter to win…
Good Luck!! I will announce the winner on Friday, May 24th!
